DIY Candles

English: Candle wick burning. Français : Gros ...I absolutely love my candle warmer. I use this gadget more than I do my own stove. I put candle jars, votives, or wax tarts in a small jar on the warmer and let the fragrance take over the home. Lately, I have been really into the fall scents of  nutmeg -vanilla or caramel-apple. Purchasing these seasonal scented  candles in the stores is so expensive.

So, recently I started to recycle the leftover wax from old candles to make new candles for the candle warmer. It is a very easy process, and there is virtually no waste involved. These candles that you create from recycled candles make excellent holiday or housewarming gifts.

Supplies:

  • A glass jar. I have been using leftover baby food jars.
  • A pack of candle wicks. Found in the craft section of Walmart.
  • A candle warmer to melt down the candles

Directions:

  1. First, take a drop of wax and put it on the flat bottom of the jar. Press the bottom of the candle wick to the bottom of the jar. Hold it there until the wax solidifies.
  2. Melt down the old candles or wax tarts. Combine them together or layer them. I have been layering mine lately to create unique scents that are often times difficult to find in the stores.
  3. If applicable, pull out the old wick and put it discard.
  4. Carefully pour the melted wax directly into the jar a little at a time. Make sure that the new wick is standing straight up in the middle of the jar.
  5. Repeat until all your wax is done. I like to do a small amount first and let it harden to hold the wick in place before I proceed with the rest of the wax.
  6. Trim the wick to about a one inch length.
  7. Enjoy!
