It seems that every year while listening to Christmas music, I hear another song that I had not previously heard throughout my quarter-century + on this earth. We have all heard Madonna’s version of “Santa Baby” or Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”. These songs are well known and well loved Christmas classics.
Still, each year a new Christmas song creeps into the radio playlist. It got me to thinking why do some songs become Christmas classics and others stay uncovered hits? In the past week or so, I have heard a few songs that I thought have a very high potential of becoming Christmas classics. Below are 5 non-traditional Christmas songs that should be hits.
- “What Will Santa Claus Say (When He Finds Everybody Swingin’)” Louis Prima
- “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” Mahalia Jackson
- “The Christmas Blues” Dean Martin
- “Gabriel’s Message” Sting
- “A Christmas Song” Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds
Bonus Song: “Silent Night” Soweto Gospel Choir

One response to “5 Non-Traditional Christmas Songs That Should Be Hits”
One of my favorites is listed here! “Sweet Little Jesus Boy,” it never ceases to bring tears to my eyes. I like Rebecca St. James’ version but the words are the most powerful thing about this song, at least in my opinion. :)
